Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD “AUNT LYDIA’S” HEAVY RUG YARN
1—70 yd. skein each National Blue and White; 2—70 yd. skeins Red for Large Bag; 1—70 yd. skein each National Blue, White and Red for Mini Bag
1 Pr. Knitting Needles Size 10 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW
GAUGE: 7 sts = 2 inches
LARGE
With National Blue cast on 8 sts.1st ROW: K, inc in every stitch.2nd AND ALL EVEN ROWS: P across, drop National Blue.3rd ROW: Attach White, K, inc 1 st in every 2nd st.5th ROW: Attach Red, K inc 1 st in every 3rd st. Continue alternating color stripes (2 rows each) and increasing on K rows having 1 st more between inc points until there are 80 sts on needle. Work even in established colors and stockinette st for 13 inches ending with a White stripe. Attach Red and work in garter st (K all rows) for 2 inches (cuff). Bind off.
FINISHING: Steam slightly, sew seam. Fold garter st cuff down to wrong side; sew in place leaving a 1 inch opening on 2 sides.DRAWSTRINGS: (make 2) Make a chain 36 inches long. Work a sl in each st on wrong side of ch. Insert a drawstring through one opening of cuff and back to beg. Knot ends tog at each side. Insert other string through other opening in same manner.
MINI
Work same as large bag for 7 inches; then work garter stitch cuff.
