TRANSCRIBER'S NOTES

TRANSCRIBER'S NOTESThe Bureau of Ethnology—later the Bureau of American Ethnology—published a total of 48 Annual Reports over the period 1879 to 1933. Each Report was divided into three pieces: introductory material including summaries of what everyone in the Bureau had been doing; a number of free-standing articles; and an Index covering the whole volume. Each article is a separate project, and the introduction and index are combined into another project. Articles are posted separately to PG, and when a volume is finished, a whole-volume version is also posted. This project contains the roman numbered introduction plus the index for the volume. Each volume contains a full index for all papers in that volume. To make the Index usable, page anchors were included in a consistent format, using the physical page number. The arabic numbered page anchors will be linked when the whole volume version is posted to PG. Until this happens only the roman numbered page links will be valid.Silently corrected simple spelling, grammar, and typographical errors.Retained anachronistic and non-standard spellings as printed.
