O Singunto theLorda new song; For he hath done marvellous things:His right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.TheLordhath made known his salvation:His righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel:All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.Make a joyful noise unto theLord, all the earth:Make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.Sing unto theLordwith the harp; With the harp, and the voice of a psalm. With trumpets and sound of cornetMake a joyful noise before theLord, the King.Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; The world, and they that dwell therein.Let the floods clap their hands:Let the hills be joyful together before theLord; For he cometh to judge the earth:With righteousness shall he judge the world,And the people with equity.
Makea joyful noise unto theLord, all ye lands.Serve theLordwith gladness:Come before his presence with singing.Know ye that theLordhe is God:It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise:Be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For theLordis good; his mercy is everlasting; And his truth endureth to all generations.
BlesstheLord, O my soul:And all that is within me, bless his holy name.Bless theLord, O my soul,And forget not all his benefits:Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;Who healeth all thy diseases;Who redeemeth thy life from destruction;Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.TheLordexecuteth righteousness and judgmentFor all that are oppressed. He made known his ways unto Moses,His acts unto the children of Israel.TheLordis merciful and gracious,Slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide:Neither will he keep his anger for ever.He hath not dealt with us after our sins;Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth,So great is his mercy toward them that fear him.As far as the east is from the west,So far hath he removed our transgressions from us.Like as a father pitieth his children,So theLordpitieth them that fear him.For he knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.As for man, his days are as grass:As a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; And the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of theLordis from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him,And his righteousness unto children's children; To such as keep his covenant,And to those that remember his commandments to do them.TheLordhath prepared his throne in the heavens; And his kingdom ruleth over all.Bless theLord, ye his angels,That excel in strength, that do hiscommandments,Hearkening unto the voice of his word.Bless ye theLord, all ye his hosts;Ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.Bless theLord, all his worksIn all places of his dominion:Bless theLord, O my soul.
BlesstheLord, O my soul.OLordmy God, thou art very great;Thou art clothed with honour and majesty.Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment:Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters:Who maketh the clouds his chariot:Who walketh upon the wings of the wind:Who maketh his angels spirits; His ministers a flaming fire:Who laid the foundations of the earth,That it should not be removed for ever.Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment:The waters stood above the mountains. At thy rebuke they fled;At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. They go up by the mountains; They go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; That they turn not again to cover the earth. He sendeth the springs into the valleys,Which run among the hills. They give drink to every beast of the field:The wild asses quench their thirst.By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation,Which sing among the branches. He watereth the hills from his chambers:The earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works. He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,And herb for the service of man:That he may bring forth food out of the earth; And wine that maketh glad the heart of man,And oil to make his face to shine,And bread which strengtheneth man's heart. The trees of theLordare full of sap;The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;Where the birds make their nests:As for the stork, the fir trees are her house. The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; And the rocks for the conies. He appointed the moon for seasons:The sun knoweth his going down.Thou makest darkness, and it is night:Wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth. The young lions roar after their prey,And seek their meat from God.The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together,And lay them down in their dens.Man goeth forth unto his workAnd to his labour until the evening.OLord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all:The earth is full of thy riches. So is this great and wide sea,Wherein are things creeping innumerable,Both small and great beasts. There go the ships:There is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. These wait all upon thee; That thou mayest give them their meat in due season. That thou givest them they gather:Thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled:Thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created:And thou renewest the face of the earth. The glory of theLordshall endure for ever:TheLordshall rejoice in his works. He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth:He toucheth the hills, and they smoke.I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live:I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of him shall be sweet:I will be glad in theLord.Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth,And let the wicked be no more.Bless thou theLord, O my soul.Praise ye theLord.
O givethanks unto theLord, for he is good:For his mercy endureth for ever.Let the redeemed of theLordsay so,Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; And gathered them out of the lands,From the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; They found no city to dwell in.Hungry and thirsty,Their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto theLordin their trouble,And he delivered them out of their distresses. And he led them forth by the right way,That they might go to a city of habitation.Oh that men would praise theLordfor his goodness,And for his wonderful works to the children of men!For he satisfieth the longing soul,And filleth the hungry soul with goodness.Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,Being bound in affliction and iron;Because they rebelled against the words of God,And contemned the counsel of the most High:Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; They fell down, and there was none to help. Then they cried unto theLordin their trouble,And he saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,And brake their bands in sunder.Oh that men would praise theLordfor his goodness,And for his wonderful works to the children of men!For he hath broken the gates of brass,And cut the bars of iron in sunder.Fools because of their transgression,And because of their iniquities, are afflicted.Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; And they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto theLordin their trouble,And he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them,And delivered them from their destructions.Oh that men would praise theLordfor his goodness,And for his wonderful works to the children of men!And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,And declare his works with rejoicing. They that go down to the sea in ships,That do business in great waters; These see the works of theLord,And his wonders in the deep. For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,Which lifteth up the waves thereof. They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths:Their soul is melted because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,And are at their wit's end. Then they cry unto theLordin their trouble,And he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh the storm a calm,So that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.Oh that men would praise theLordfor his goodness,And for his wonderful works to the children of men!Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people,And praise him in the assembly of the elders. He turneth rivers into a wilderness,And the watersprings into dry ground;A fruitful land into barrenness,For the wickedness of them that dwell therein. He turneth the wilderness into a standing water,And dry ground into watersprings. And there he maketh the hungry to dwell,That they may prepare a city for habitation; And sow the fields, and plant vineyards,Which may yield fruits of increase. He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; And suffereth not their cattle to decrease.Again, they are minished and brought lowThrough oppression, affliction, and sorrow. He poureth contempt upon princes,And causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction,And maketh him families like a flock. The righteous shall see it, and rejoice:And all iniquity shall stop her mouth.Whoso is wise, and will observe these things,Even they shall understand the lovingkindness of theLord.
Praiseye theLord.I will praise theLordwith my whole heart,In the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. The works of theLordare great,Sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is honourable and glorious:And his righteousness endureth for ever.He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered:TheLordis gracious and full of compassion. He hath given meat unto them that fear him:He will ever be mindful of his covenant. He hath shewed his people the power of his works,That he may give them the heritage of the heathen. The works of his hands are verity and judgment; All his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever,And are done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption unto his people:He hath commanded his covenant for ever:Holy and reverend is his name. The fear of theLordis the beginning of wisdom:A good understanding have all they that do his commandments:His praise endureth for ever.
I lovetheLord, because he hath heardMy voice and my supplications.Because he hath inclined his ear unto me,Therefore will I call upon him as long as I live. The sorrows of death compassed me,And the pains of hell gat hold upon me:I found trouble and sorrow. Then called I upon the name of theLord;OLord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.Gracious is theLord, and righteous;Yea, our God is merciful.TheLordpreserveth the simple:I was brought low, and he helped me.Return unto thy rest, O my soul; For theLordhath dealt bountifully with thee. For thou hast delivered my soul from death,Mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.I will walk before theLordIn the land of the living.I believed, therefore have I spoken:I was greatly afflicted:I said in my haste,All men are liars. What shall I render unto theLordFor all his benefits toward me?I will take the cup of salvation,And call upon the name of theLord.I will pay my vows unto theLordnowIn the presence of all his people.Precious in the sight of theLordIs the death of his saints.OLord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant,And the son of thine handmaid:Thou hast loosed my bonds.I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving,And will call upon the name of theLord.I will pay my vows unto theLordnowIn the presence of all his people,In the courts of theLord'shouse,In the midst of thee, O Jerusalem.Praise ye theLord.
O givethanks unto theLord; for he is good:Because his mercy endureth for ever.Let Israel now say,That his mercy endureth for ever.Let the house of Aaron now say,That his mercy endureth for ever.Let them now that fear theLordsay,That his mercy endureth for ever.I called upon theLordin distress:TheLordanswered me, and set me in a large place.TheLordis on my side; I will not fear:What can man do unto me?TheLordtaketh my part with them that help me:Therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.It is better to trust in theLordThan to put confidence in man.It is better to trust in theLordThan to put confidence in princes. All nations compassed me about:But in the name of theLordwill I destroy them. They compassed me about; yea, they compassed me about:But in the name of theLordI will destroy them. They compassed me about like bees; They are quenched as the fire of thorns:For in the name of theLordI will destroy them.Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall:But theLordhelped me....
I willlift up mine eyes unto the hills,From whence cometh my help.My help cometh from theLord,Which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved:He that keepeth thee will not slumber.Behold, he that keepeth IsraelShall neither slumber nor sleep.TheLordis thy keeper:TheLordis thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day,Nor the moon by night.TheLordshall preserve thee from all evil:He shall preserve thy soul.TheLordshall preserve thy going out and thy coming inFrom this time forth, and even for evermore.
O givethanks unto theLord; for he is good:For his mercy endureth for ever.O give thanks unto the God of gods:For his mercy endureth for ever.O give thanks to the Lord of lords:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him who alone doeth great wonders:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him that by wisdom made the heavens:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him that stretched out the earth above the waters:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him that made great lights:For his mercy endureth for ever:The sun to rule by day:For his mercy endureth for ever:The moon and stars to rule by night:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn:For his mercy endureth for ever:And brought out Israel from among them:For his mercy endureth for ever:With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him which divided the Red sea into parts:For his mercy endureth for ever:And made Israel to pass through the midst of it:For his mercy endureth for ever:But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him which led his people through the wilderness:For his mercy endureth for ever.To him which smote great kings:For his mercy endureth for ever:And slew famous kings:For his mercy endureth for ever:Sihon king of the Amorites:For his mercy endureth for ever:And Og the king of Bashan:For his mercy endureth for ever:And gave their land for an heritage:For his mercy endureth for ever:Even an heritage unto Israel his servant:For his mercy endureth for ever.Who remembered us in our low estate:For his mercy endureth for ever:And hath redeemed us from our enemies:For his mercy endureth for ever.Who giveth food to all flesh:For his mercy endureth for ever.O give thanks unto the God of heaven:For his mercy endureth for ever.
I willpraise thee with my whole heart:Before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.I will worship toward thy holy temple,And praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth:For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.In the day when I cried thou answeredst me,And strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, OLord,When they hear the words of thy mouth.Yea, they shall sing in the ways of theLord:For great is the glory of theLord.Though theLordbe high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly:But the proud he knoweth afar off.Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me:Thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies,And thy right hand shall save me.TheLordwill perfect that which concerneth me:Thy mercy, OLord, endureth for ever:Forsake not the works of thine own hands.
O Lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,Thou understandest my thought afar off.Thou compassest my path and my lying down,And art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue,But, lo, OLord, thou knowest it altogether.Thou hast beset me behind and before,And laid thine hand upon me.Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;It is high, I cannot attain unto it.Whither shall I go from thy spirit?Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning,And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;Even there shall thy hand lead me,And thy right hand shall hold me.If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me;Even the night shall be light about me.Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; But the night shineth as the day:The darkness and the light are both alike to thee....I will praise thee; For I am fearfully and wonderfully made:Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well....Search me, O God, and know my heart:Try me, and know my thoughts:And see if there be any wicked way in me,And lead me in the way everlasting.
I willextol thee, my God, O king; And I will bless thy name for ever and ever.Every day will I bless thee; And I will praise thy name for ever and ever.Great is theLord, and greatly to be praised; And his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another,And shall declare thy mighty acts.I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty,And of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts:And I will declare thy greatness. They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness,And shall sing of thy righteousness.TheLordis gracious, and full of compassion;Slow to anger, and of great mercy.TheLordis good to all:And his tender mercies are over all his works. All thy works shall praise thee, OLord; And thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom,And talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts,And the glorious majesty of his kingdom.Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,And thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.TheLordupholdeth all that fall,And raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; And thou givest them their meat in due season.Thou openest thine hand,And satisfiest the desire of every living thing.TheLordis righteous in all his ways,And holy in all his works.TheLordis nigh unto all them that call upon him,To all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him:He also will hear their cry, and will save them.TheLordpreserveth all them that love him:But all the wicked will he destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of theLord:And let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.
Praiseye theLord.Praise theLord, O my soul. While I live will I praise theLord:I will sing praises unto my God whileI have any being.Put not your trust in princes,Nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; In that very day his thoughts perish.Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help,Whose hope is in theLordhis God:Which made heaven, and earth,The sea, and all that therein is:Which keepeth truth for ever:Which executeth judgment for the oppressed:Which giveth food to the hungry.TheLordlooseth the prisoners:TheLordopeneth the eyes of the blind:TheLordraiseth them that are bowed down:TheLordloveth the righteous:TheLordpreserveth the strangers; He relieveth the fatherless and widow:But the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.TheLordshall reign for ever,Even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations.Praise ye theLord.
Praiseye theLord:For it is good to sing praises unto our God;For it is pleasant; and praise is comely.TheLorddoth build up Jerusalem:He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel. He healeth the broken in heart,And bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the stars; He calleth them all by their names.Great is our Lord, and of great power:His understanding is infinite.TheLordlifteth up the meek:He casteth the wicked down to the ground.Sing unto theLordwith thanksgiving;Sing praise upon the harp unto our God:Who covereth the heaven with clouds,Who prepareth rain for the earth,Who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. He giveth to the beast his food,And to the young ravens which cry.He delighteth not in the strength of the horse:He taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.TheLordtaketh pleasure in them that fear him,In those that hope in his mercy.Praise theLord, O Jerusalem;Praise thy God, O Zion. For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; He hath blessed thy children within thee.He maketh peace in thy borders,And filleth thee with the finest of the wheat. He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth:His word runneth very swiftly. He giveth snow like wool:He scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. He casteth forth his ice like morsels:Who can stand before his cold?He sendeth out his word, and melteth them:He causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.He sheweth his word unto Jacob,His statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation:And as for his judgments, they have not known them.Praise ye theLord.
Praiseye theLord.Praise ye theLordfrom the heavens:Praise him in the heights.Praise ye him, all his angels:Praise ye him, all his hosts.Praise ye him, sun and moon:Praise him, all ye stars of light.Praise him, ye heavens of heavens,And ye waters that be above the heavens.Let them praise the name of theLord:For he commanded, and they were created. He hath also stablished them for ever and ever:He hath made a decree which shall not pass.Praise theLordfrom the earth,Ye dragons, and all deeps:Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours;Stormy wind fulfilling his word:Mountains, and all hills;Fruitful trees, and all cedars:Beasts, and all cattle;Creeping things, and flying fowl:Kings of the earth, and all people;Princes, and all judges of the earth:Both young men, and maidens;Old men, and children:Let them praise the name of theLord:For his name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven. He also exalteth the horn of his people,The praise of all his saints;Even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him.Praise ye theLord.
Praiseye theLord.Praise God in his sanctuary:Praise him in the firmament of his power.Praise him for his mighty acts:Praise him according to his excellent greatness.Praise him with the sound of the trumpet:Praise him with the psaltery and harp.Praise him with the timbrel and dance:Praise him with stringed instruments and organs.Praise him upon the loud cymbals:Praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.Let every thing that hath breath praise theLord.Praise ye theLord.
Proverbs 1
THE proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel.
The fear of theLordis the beginning of knowledge:But fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear the instruction of thy father,And forsake not the law of thy mother:For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head,And chains about thy neck.My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.Let not mercy and truth forsake thee:Bind them about thy neck;Write them upon the table of thine heart:So shalt thou find favour and good understandingIn the sight of God and man.Trust in theLordwith all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him,And he shall direct thy paths.Be not wise in thine own eyes:Fear theLord, and depart from evil.My son, despise not the chastening of theLord;Neither be weary of his correction:For whom theLordloveth he correcteth;Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,And the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver,And the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies:And all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.Length of days is in her right hand; And in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness,And all her paths are peace.
Proverbs 4
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:And with all thy getting get understanding.Exalt her, and she shall promote thee:She shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace:A crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. The path of the just is as the shining light,That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.The way of the wicked is as darkness:They know not at what they stumble.Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.Go to the ant, thou sluggard;Consider her ways, and be wise:Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,Provideth her meat in the summer,And gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?Yet a little sleep, a little slumber,A little folding of the hands to sleep:So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth,And thy want as an armed man. These six things doth theLordhate:Yea, seven are an abomination unto him:A proud look, a lying tongue,And hands that shed innocent blood,An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,Feet that be swift in running to mischief,A false witness that speaketh lies,And he that soweth discord among brethren.Doth not wisdom cry?And understanding put forth her voice? She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city,At the coming in at the doors.Unto you, O men, I call; And my voice is to the sons of man.Wisdom is better than rubies; And all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.I love them that love me;And those that seek me early shall find me.Riches and honour are with me;Yea, durable riches and righteousness.TheLordpossessed me in the beginning of his way,Before his works of old.I was set up from everlasting,From the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; When there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled,Before the hills was I brought forth:While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields,Nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there:When he set a compass upon the face of the depth:When he established the clouds above:When he strengthened the fountains of the deep:When he gave to the sea his decree,That the waters should not pass his commandment:When he appointed the foundations of the earth:Then I was by him, as one brought up with him:And I was daily his delight,Rejoicing always before him;Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; And my delights were with the sons of men.Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children:For blessed are they that keep my ways.Hear instruction, and be wise,And refuse it not.Blessed is the man that heareth me,Watching daily at my gates,Waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life,And shall obtain favour of theLord. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:All they that hate me love death.
Proverbs 9
The fear of theLordis the beginning of wisdom:And the knowledge of the holy is understanding.A wise son maketh a glad father:But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand:But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.Hatred stirreth up strifes:But love covereth all sins.He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction:But he that refuseth reproof erreth. He that hideth hatred with lying lips,And he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin:But he that refraineth his lips is wise. The blessing of theLord, it maketh rich,And he addeth no sorrow with it.When pride cometh, then cometh shame:But with the lowly is wisdom.A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast:But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. The way of a fool is right in his own eyes:But he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. The lip of truth shall be established for ever:But a lying tongue is but for a moment.Lying lips are abomination to theLord:But they that deal truly are his delight. He that walketh with wise men shall be wise:But a companion of fools shall be destroyed. He that spareth his rod hateth his son:But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth:But he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.A soft answer turneth away wrath:But grievous words stir up anger. The eyes of theLordare in every place,Beholding the evil and the good.A fool despiseth his father's instruction:But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.Better is little with the fear of theLord,Than great treasure and trouble therewith.Better is a dinner of herbs where love is,Than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
Proverbs 16
Pride goeth before destruction,And an haughty spirit before a fall.Pleasant words are as an honeycomb,Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. The hoary head is a crown of glory,If it be found in the way of righteousness. He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker:And he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.Whoso rewardeth evil for good,Evil shall not depart from his house. The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water:Therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.A friend loveth at all times,And a brother is born for adversity.A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:But a broken spirit drieth the bones. He also that is slothful in his workIs brother to him that is a great waster.Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; And an idle soul shall suffer hunger.Even a child is known by his doings,Whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.Whoso curseth his father or his mother,His lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. To do justice and judgmentIs more acceptable to theLordthan sacrifice.Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor,He also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard. He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongueKeepeth his soul from troubles.A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,And loving favour rather than silver and gold. The rich and poor meet together:TheLordis the maker of them all.Train up a child in the way he should go:And when he is old, he will not depart from it.He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; For he giveth of his bread to the poor.Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.Rob not the poor, because he is poor:Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate.Hearken unto thy father that begat thee,And despise not thy mother when she is old.Look not thou upon the wine when it is red,When it giveth his colour in the cup,When it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent,And stingeth like an adder.
Proverbs 24
Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth,And let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat;And if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head,And theLordshall reward thee.Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein:And he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.Boast not thyself of to morrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth;A stranger, and not thine own lips.Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not.A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple pass on, and are punished.Iron sharpeneth iron;So a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof:So he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured. As in water face answereth to face,So the heart of man to man.The wicked flee when no man pursueth:But the righteous are bold as a lion.Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness,Than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son:But he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law,Even his prayer shall be abomination.Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way,He shall fall himself into his own pit:But the upright shall have good things in possession. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper:But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved:But he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread:But he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favourThan he that flattereth with the tongue.Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; The same is the companion of a destroyer. He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife:But he that putteth his trust in theLordshall be made fat.He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool:But whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack:But he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck,Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:But when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.A man that flattereth his neighbourSpreadeth a net for his feet. The righteous considereth the cause of the poor:But the wicked regardeth not to know it.If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man,Whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.A fool uttereth all his mind:But a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.An angry man stirreth up strife,And a furious man aboundeth in transgression.A man's pride shall bring him low:But honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul:He heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.The fear of man bringeth a snare:But whoso putteth his trust in theLordshall be safe.Every word of God is pure:He is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Ecclesiastes 12
REMEMBER now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,While the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh,When thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened,Nor the clouds return after the rain:In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble,And the strong men shall bow themselves,And the grinders cease because they are few,And those that look out of the windows be darkened,And the doors shall be shut in the streets,When the sound of the grinding is low,And he shall rise up at the voice of the bird,And all the daughters of musick shall be brought low; Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high,And fears shall be in the way,And the almond tree shall flourish,And the grasshopper shall be a burden,And desire shall fail:Because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken,Or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was:And the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
