CHAP.VI.OfFASTIDY, orLOATHING.

THECauseof thisSymptomproceeds from the worse Sort and more ignoble Part of theBlood; which, in concert with theHumours, perverts theTemperatureof theStomach, by flowing towards its Orifice: AndThis, upon emittingVapoursto thesame, strongly impresseth suchvicious Qualitiesupon it, as doth occasion sometimes aLoathingofAll Meats, and sometimes only anAversionto some certainparticular Dishes of Meat.

WHICHlastCasehappens most commonly, and especially at the Time ofNewandFull-Moon. Now thisLoathingmay bethusdistinguished: To wit; if it rises frombilousorcholerick Humours, theWomanfeels a gnawing or biting of theVentricle, and is afflicted with a frequentgreat Thirst: If fromputrid Humours, she is (at several Times)feverishly inclined: And if frommoderate gross Humours, the onlySignis afrequent Spitting.

THISSymptomceases (of itself) in due Progress of Time: For as theFoetus(which as yet is onlysustain’dby the better and nobler Part of theBlood) growsbigger, it requires thelarger Quantity, and atlast theWholeof theMenstruousBloodfor itsSustenance; at which Time also the accumulatedHumourslikewise are lodg’d in their proper Place:BothwhichCausesbeing thus remov’d, theEffectceases of course by degrees. However it is prudent, to prevent thisEvil, from the beginning of Conception, by properMedicines; but otherways (whenever it happens) unless theFoetusbe endanger’d for want of sufficient Aliment, Time and Patience are the fittedRemedies.
