THEDysuriais a painful and difficultExcretionofUrine; as theIschuriais an entireSuppressionof theSame: And theStrangurianothing but anEffectof the otherTwo; being anExcretionmade Drop by Drop, with a continualStimulationorPropensityto make Water, however without any acutePain, tho’ not without someUneasiness.
NOWthesethreeSYMPTOMShave all their respectiveCauses, which I shall not particularly enter upon here at large; but only, take notice by the By, that in thePregnant Woman, they most commonly proceed fromOneand the sameOriginal: Wherefore I shall in this Place discourse of themconjunctly; and observe that all threeSYMPTOMSmay proceed from theponderousWomb, lying upon, and depressing theNeck of the Bladder; andthatthe more heavily, the nearer theWomanis to herTime. Thepungent Acrimonyof theUrinesometimes also occasionsIncontinence, or want ofRetention; as itsInflammatory Heatcauseth almost a totalSuppression. However, in short, suchSYMPTOMSmaylikewise proceed from somecrudeandunconcocted Matter, obstructing and oppressing theSphincter-Muscles.
BEThatas it will, in the presentCase, theCureis but very seldom of greatDifficulty; being frequently effected, by lifting up theBottom of her Bellywith both Hands when she is about tomake Water: Or, by wearing a convenient largeSwathe. But if Need require, theRegionof theBladdermay be cherished with properemollient Fomentations,Injections, orCataplasms; as (upon anyExtremityat last) aCathetermay be prudently used.
IFtheSYMPTOMhowever proceeds from anyInflammatory, orAcrimonious Qualityof theUrine; it may be sufficiently helped by a proper, regular, coolingDiet: As, if it arises from anyundigested, crude Matter; it may be assisted or reliev’d by a goodDraught[77]ofwarmgenerousWINE; which not only helpsConcoction, but also facilitates and promotesURINE: But in case of absoluteNecessity, after all, gentlePhlebotomyought to be carefully used.
