CHAP.XXVI.OfFISSURESorCHOPSof theBELLY.

THISSymptomonly happens toWomenbearing theirfirstorsecond CHILD; wholelower BELLIEShave not yet been sufficientlyextendedby frequentCONCEPTION.

THECauseproceeds only from thenatural LenitudeandConstrictionof the Skin of theABDOMENorlower Belly; which (in proportion to theGrowthof theINFANT) must dilate and distend itself: So far as that towards thelatter Months, it gives way to such a large degree, that it appears not otherways than as if theSKINwas to be divided, and almost crack or break by its thinAttenuation.

HOWEVERit occasions also very often greatPain, as well as apermanent wrinkledDeformityof thatPart. WhereforeLaxative Liniments, and properUnguents, are pertinently to be made use of by way ofPrecaution, from thefourth Month, until the Time of Delivery.
