1425:34Then shall the king say to those on his right hand, Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;25:35for I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;25:36naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.25:37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you? or thirsty, and give you drink?25:38when did we see you a stranger, and take you in? or naked, and clothe you?25:39when did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?25:40And the king shall answer and say to them, I tell you truly, that inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me.
1525:41Then shall he say to those on his left hand, Depart from me accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.25:42For I was hungry and you gave me no food; I was thirsty and you gave me no drink;25:43a stranger, and you took me not in; sick and in prison and you visited me not.25:44Then shall they also answer and say, Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not serve you?25:45Then he shall answer them saying, I tell you truly, that inasmuch as you have not done it to one of the least of these my brothers, you have not done it to me.25:46And these shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into life eternal.
126:1WHEN Jesus had finished all these words he said to his disciples,26:2You know that after two days is the passover, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.26:3Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were assembled in the court of the chief priest, who was called Caiaphas,26:4and they took counsel to seize Jesus by stratagem, and kill him.26:5But they said, Not at the feast, lest there be a tumult among the people.
226:6And Jesus being at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,26:7a woman came to him having a vase of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head, as he reclined.26:8And his disciples seeing it were displeased, and said, Why is this waste?26:9This could have been sold for much and given to the poor.26:10But Jesus knowing it, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? for she has done a good work for me;26:11for the poor you always have with you, but me you have not always.26:12For in putting this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial.26:13I tell you truly, that wherever this good news is preached in all the word, what this woman has done shall be told for a memorial of her.
326:14Then went one of the twelve called Judas Iscariot to the chief priests,26:15and said, What will you give me to deliver him to you? And they gave him thirty [shekels] of silver [$16.80].26:16And from that time he sought a good opportunity to deliver him up.26:17And on the first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where do you wish us to prepare for you to eat the passover?26:18And he said, Go into the city to such a one, and say to him, The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover with you, together with my disciples.26:19And the disciples did as Jesus commanded them, and prepared the passover;26:20and when it was evening he reclined with the twelve.26:21And as they were eating, he said, I tell you truly, that one of you will betray me.26:22And being grieved exceedingly, they each one began to say to him, Lord, is it I?26:23But he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, he shall betray me.26:24The Son of man goes indeed, as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it would be good for him if that man had not been born.26:25And Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He said to him, As you say.
426:26And as they were eating Jesus took the bread, and having blessed, broke and gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.26:27And taking the cup, and giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink you all of it;26:28this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.26:29And I tell you that I will not drink henceforth of this product of the vine, till that day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father.26:30And having sung a hymn they went out to the Mount of Olives.
526:31Then Jesus said to them, You will all be offended with me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered;26:32but after I have risen I will go before you into Galilee.26:33And Peter answered and said to him, If all men shall be offended with you, I will not.26:34Jesus said to him, I tell you truly, that this night, before the cock crows, you will deny me thrice.26:35Peter said to him, If it should be necessary for me to die with you, I will by no means deny you. And all the disciples said the same.
126:36THEN Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, Sit here, till I go and pray there.26:37And taking Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and dejected.26:38Then he said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; remain here and watch with me.26:39And going forward a little, he fell on his face, and prayed and said, My Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from me; but not as I will, but as thou wilt.26:40And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, Are you so unable to watch with me one hour?26:41Watch and pray that you enter not into trial; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
226:42Going away again a second time, he prayed, saying, My Father, if this cup cannot pass from me unless I drink it, thy will be done.26:43And he came and found them sleeping again, for their eyes were heavy.26:44And leaving them, again he went away and prayed, saying the same words.26:45Then he came to the disciples and said to them, Do you sleep still and take your rest? Behold the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is delivered into the hands of sinners.26:46Arise, let us go; behold, he that betrays me is at hand.
326:47And while he was yet speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude, with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.26:48And he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, The one that I shall kiss is he; take him.26:49And immediately coming forward to Jesus, he said, Hail, Rabbi, and kissed him.26:50But Jesus said to him, Comrade, for what have you come? Then they came forward, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.26:51And behold, one of those with Jesus, stretching out his hand, drew his sword, and striking the servant of the chief priest cut off his ear.26:52Then Jesus said to him, Put up your sword in its place; for all who take the sword shall perish by the sword.26:53Do you think that I could not ask my Father, and he would furnish me more than twelve legions of angels?26:54How then would the Scriptures be accomplished, that it must be so?
426:55At that time Jesus said to the multitudes, Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take me? I sat daily teaching in the temple, and you did not take me;26:56but all this was done that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then the disciples all forsook him and fled.26:57And having taken Jesus, they led him away to Caiaphas, the chief priest, where the scribes and elders were assembled.26:58But Peter followed him at a distance, even to the court of the chief priest, and going in sat with the officers to see the end.
526:59And the chief priests and all the sanhedrim sought false testimony against Jesus to kill him,26:60and did not find it, though many false witnesses came forward. But afterwards, two coming forward26:61said, This man said, I can destroy the temple of God and build it in three days.26:62And the chief priest rising up said to him, Do you answer nothing? What do these testify against you?26:63But Jesus was silent. And the chief priest answering, said to him, I adjure you, by the living God, to tell me if you are the Christ, the Son of God.26:64Jesus said to him, As you say; but I tell you that hereafter you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.
626:65Then the chief priest rent his clothes, saying, He has blasphemed; what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard the blasphemy.26:66What do you think? And they answered and said, He is worthy of death.26:67Then they spit in his face, and struck him with their fists, and some struck him with the palms of their hands,26:68saying, Prophesy to us, Christ, who is it that struck you?
726:69But Peter sat without in the court; and a female servant came to him, saying, You also were with Jesus the Galilean.26:70But he denied it before all, saying, I know not what you say.26:71And going out into the porch, another [female servant] saw him, and said to those there, This man was also with Jesus the Nazoraean.26:72And again he denied with an oath, saying, I know not the man.26:73But after a little while those standing by came forward, and said to Peter, Certainly you are also one of them, for your speech makes you manifest.26:74Then he began to curse and swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately a cock crew;26:75and Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said, Before a cock crows you will deny me thrice; and he went out and wept bitterly.
127:1AND when it was morning all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to kill him.27:2And having bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate, the procurator.27:3Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he was condemned, repenting, returned the thirty shekels of silver [$16.80] to the chief priests and elders,27:4saying, I have sinned, betraying innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see you to it.27:5And throwing down the silver in the temple he departed; and having gone away strangled himself.
227:6And the chief priests taking the silver said, It is not lawful to put it into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.27:7And taking counsel, they bought with it the potter's field for a burying place for strangers.27:8For this reason, the field is called a field of blood to this day.27:9Then was fulfilled the word spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying; And they took the thirty shekels of silver, the price of him that was prized, whom [men] from the sons of Israel set a price upon,27:10and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord commanded me.
327:11And Jesus stood before the procurator; and the procurator asked him, saying, Are you the king of the Jews? And Jesus said to him, As you say.27:12And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders he answered nothing.27:13Then Pilate said to him, Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?27:14And he answered him not a word; so that the procurator wondered greatly.
427:15And at the feast the procurator was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner, whom they chose;27:16and he then had a noted prisoner called Barabbas.27:17When, therefore, they were assembled together, Pilate said to them, Which do you wish me to release to you? Barabbas? or Jesus, called Christ?27:18For he knew that they had delivered him up from envy.27:19And as he sat on the tribunal his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that just man, for I have suffered much to-day on his account, from a dream.
527:20But the chief priests and elders persuaded the people to ask for Barabbas, and to destroy Jesus.27:21And the procurator answered and said to them, Which of the two do you wish me to release to you? And they said, Barabbas.27:22Pilate said to them, What then shall I do to Jesus, called Christ? They all said, Let him be crucified.27:23But he said, [No]; for what evil has he done? And they cried more vehemently, saying, Let him be crucified.
627:24And Pilate seeing that he accomplished nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this man; see you to it.27:25And all the people answered and said, His blood be upon us and upon our children.27:26Then he released Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus delivered him up to be crucified.
127:27THEN the soldiers of the procurator taking Jesus to the Prætorium assembled about him the whole cohort,27:28and stripped him, and put on him a crimson cloak,27:29and making a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they knelt before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!27:30And they spit on him, and took the reed and beat him on his head.27:31And when they had mocked him, they took the cloak off from him, and put on him his own clothes, and led him away to crucify him.
227:32And going out, they found a Cyrenian by the name of Simon, whom they compelled to bear his cross.27:33And coming to a place called Golgotha, which is called A place of a cranium,27:34they gave him vinegar to drink mixed with gall; and when he had tasted of it he would not drink.
327:35And having crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots,27:36and sat down and watched him there.27:37And they put over his head his accusation, written; THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.27:38Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
427:39And those who went by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,27:40and saying, You that destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.27:41And the chief priests in like manner also mocked him, with the scribes and elders, and said,27:42He saved others, himself he cannot save. If he is the king of Israel let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe on him;27:43he trusted in God; let him deliver him if he wishes for him; for he said, I am a Son of God.27:44The robbers also that were crucified with him did the same, and reproached him.27:45And from the sixth hour there was darkness on all the land till the ninth hour;27:46and at about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?27:47And some of those standing there hearing him, said, He calls for Elijah.27:48And one of them ran immediately to him, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and putting it on a reed gave it to him to drink.27:49But the rest said, Let him alone; let us see if Elijah will come and save him.27:50And Jesus crying again with a loud voice, gave up the spirit.
527:51And behold, the vail of the temple was rent in two, from top to bottom, and the earth was shaken, and the rocks rent,27:52and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of saints that slept arose,27:53and going out of the tombs, after his resurrection entered into the holy city, and appeared to many.
627:54And the centurion and those with him watching Jesus, seeing the earthquake, and the [other] events which occurred, were greatly afraid, and said, Certainly, this was a Son of God.27:55And there were many women there, beholding from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, to wait upon him;27:56among whom were Mary the Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
727:57And when it was evening a rich man came from Arimathea, by the name of Joseph, who himself also was a disciple of Jesus;27:58this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded it to be given him;27:59and Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in clean linen,27:60and placed it in a new tomb of his which he had excavated in a rock, and having rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb he went away;27:61and Mary the Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite to the tomb.
127:62AND on the next day, which is after the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees were assembled together to Pilate,27:63and said, Sir, we remember that this deceiver said when he was yet alive, After three days I will rise.27:64Command, therefore, the tomb to be made safe till the third day, lest his disciples should come and steal him, and say to the people, He is raised from the dead, and the last error be worse than the first.27:65Pilate said to them, You have a guard; go and make it as safe as you can.27:66And they went and made the tomb safe with a guard, having sealed the stone.
228:1And after the sabbath, when it began to dawn on the first day of the week, came Mary the Magdalene, and the other Mary, to see the tomb.28:2And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it.28:3And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow;28:4and from fear of him the keepers shook and became like dead men.28:5And the angel answered and said to the women, Fear not, for I know that you seek Jesus the crucified.28:6He is not here, for he is raised, as he said. Come and see the place where the Lord lay,28:7and go immediately and tell his disciples that he is raised from the dead; and behold, he will go before you into Galilee; there shall you see him. Behold, I have told you.28:8And going out immediately from the tomb with fear and great joy, they ran to tell his disciples.
328:9And behold, Jesus also met them, saying, Hail! And they approached him, and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him.28:10Then Jesus said to them, Fear not; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they shall see me.28:11And as they went, behold, some of the guard came into the city and told the chief priests all the things which had happened.28:12And being assembled with the elders, and taking counsel, they gave large sums of money to the soldiers,28:13saying, Say that his disciples came by night and stole him while we slept;28:14and if this is heard of by the procurator we will satisfy him and secure you.28:15And they took the silver and did as they were told; and this report is circulated among the Jews to this day.
428:16And the eleven disciples went to Galilee on the mountain where Jesus had appointed them;28:17and they saw and worshipped him; but some doubted.28:18And Jesus coming near spoke to them, saying, All power is given me in heaven and on the earth;28:19go and disciple all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit;28:20teaching them to keep all things which I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always till the consummation of the world.
11:1THE beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God,1:2as it is written in Isaiah the prophet; Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way.1:3A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord! Make his paths straight.
21:4John baptized in the wilderness, preaching the baptism of a change of mind for the forgiveness of sins.1:5And all the country of Judea and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
31:6And John was clothed with camel's hairs and a leather girdle about his loins, and he eat locusts and wild honey,1:7and preached, saying, After me comes one mightier than I, the strings of whose shoes I am not fit to stoop down and untie;1:8I have baptized you with water, but he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
41:9In those days came Jesus from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized in the Jordan by John;1:10and going up immediately out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit descend like a dove upon him;1:11and there was a voice from heaven, You are my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.1:12And the Spirit immediately drove him into the wilderness,1:13and he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the beasts; and the angels waited on him.
51:14And after John was delivered up Jesus came into Galilee preaching the good news of God,1:15saying, The time is completed, and the kingdom of God is at hand; change your minds and believe in the good news.1:16And passing along by the lake of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, Simon's brother, casting [a net] into the lake, for they were fishermen.1:17And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishermen of men.1:18And immediately leaving their nets they followed him.1:19And proceeding a little further on he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; and they were in the ship mending the nets;1:20and he immediately called them. And leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired men, they went away after him.
61:21And they entered into Capernaum, and immediately on the sabbath he taught in the synagogues.1:22And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
71:23And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an impure spirit, and he cried out,1:24saying, What have you to do with us, Jesus Nazarene? have you come to destroy us? We know you who you are, the holy [Son] of God!1:25And Jesus rebuked him saying, Be still, and come out of him.1:26And the impure spirit affecting him with convulsions, and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.1:27And all were astonished, so that they inquired among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching with authority, and does he command the impure spirits and they obey him?1:28And his fame went out immediately into all the country about Galilee.
81:29And going immediately out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John;1:30and Simon's mother-in-law was lying with a fever; and immediately they told him of her.1:31And coming, he took her by the hand, and raised her up, and the fever immediately left her, and she waited on them.
91:32And at evening when the sun went down they brought to him all that were sick, and the demoniacs;1:33and the whole city was assembled at the door.1:34And he healed many that were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons, and suffered not the demons to say that they knew him.
101:35And in the morning while it was quite dark he arose and went out, and departed to a solitary place, and there prayed.1:36And Simon and those with him followed him,1:37and said to him, All men seek you.1:38And he said to them, Let us go elsewhere to the adjoining villages to preach there; because for this purpose have I come.1:39And he preached in their synagogues in all Galilee, and cast out demons.
111:40And a leper came to him beseeching him, saying to him, If you will, you can cleanse me.1:41And having compassion on him, he stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, I will; be cleansed.1:42And the leprosy immediately left him, and he was cleansed.1:43And giving him a strict charge, he immediately sent him away,1:44and said to him, See that you say nothing to any one, but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.1:45And going out he spread and published abroad the report, to such an extent that he [Jesus] could no longer go openly into a city, but was without in solitary places; and they came to him from every quarter.
12:1AND entering again into Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was in the house.2:2And many came together immediately, so that there was no room, not even in the places about the door; and he spoke to them the word.2:3And they came to him bringing a paralytic, borne by four;2:4and not being able to approach him on account of the multitude, they uncovered the roof where he was, and having made an opening let down the bed on which the paralytic was laid.2:5And Jesus seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven.
22:6And some of the scribes were sitting there, and reasoned in their minds,2:7Why does this man speak so? he blasphemes. Who can forgive sins but God alone?2:8And Jesus immediately knowing in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, Why do you reason in your minds?2:9in what respect is it easier to say to the paralytic, Your sins are forgiven you, than to say, Arise, take up your bed and walk?2:10But that you may know that the Son of man has power to forgive sins on the earth, he said to the paralytic,2:11I tell you, arise, take your bed and go to your house.2:12And he was raised up and immediately taking his bed he went away before all; so that all were astonished, and glorified God, saying, We never saw the like.
32:13And he went out again by the lake, and all the multitude came to him, and he taught them.2:14And passing by he saw Levi, the son of Alpheus, sitting at the custom house, and said to him, Follow me; and he arose and followed him.2:15And he was reclining in his house, and many publicans and sinners also reclined with Jesus and his disciples, for many also followed him.2:16And the scribes and Pharisees seeing him eating with sinners and publicans, said to his disciples, Why does he eat and drink with sinners and publicans?2:17And Jesus hearing it, said to them, The well need not a physician, but the ill; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
42:18And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fasted. And they came and said to him, Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, and your disciples fast not?2:19And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bridechamber fast as long as the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast,2:20but days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they shall fast at that time.2:21No one sews a piece of undressed cloth on an old garment; if he does the new piece takes away its fullness from the old, and the rent is made worse.2:22And no one puts new wine into old bottles; if he does the wine breaks the bottles, and the wine and the bottles are destroyed.
52:23And he was passing on the sabbath through the grain fields, and his disciples began to make their way, picking heads of grain.2:24And the Pharisees said to him, See what they do on the sabbath, which it is not lawful to do.2:25And he said to them, Have you never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry? both he and those with him?2:26How he entered into the house of God under Abiathar the chief priest, and eat the show bread, which it was not lawful to eat, except for the priests, and gave also to them that were with him?2:27And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath;2:28so that the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.
63:1And he entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there having a withered hand.3:2And they watched him [to see] if he would cure him on the sabbath, that they might accuse him.3:3And he said to the man having the withered hand, Arise in the midst.3:4And he said to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? And they were silent.3:5And looking around on them in anger, being grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.3:6And the Pharisees went out immediately with the Herodians, and took counsel against him to kill him.
73:7And Jesus went away with his disciples to the lake; and a great multitude followed him from Galilee,3:8and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from Idumea, and beyond the Jordan. And those about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing what he did, came to him.3:9And he told his disciples to have a boat constantly attend him on account of the multitude, that they might not throng him.3:10For he cured many, so that all who had diseases fell down before him, that they might touch him;3:11and the impure spirits when they saw him fell down before him, and cried, saying, You are the Son of God.3:12And he strictly charged them not to make him known.
13:13AND he went up on the mountain, and called whom he would; and they went to him.3:14And he appointed twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them out to preach,3:15and have power to cast out demons.3:16And he gave to Simon the name of Peter. [He appointed him],3:17and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James—and he gave them the names of Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder—3:18and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Zealot,3:19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. And they came into a house,3:20and again a multitude came together, so that they could not eat bread.3:21And those with him hearing of it, went out to take him; for they said, He is beside himself.
23:22And the scribes coming down from Jerusalem said, He has Beelzebul, and casts out demons by the ruler of demons.3:23And calling them, he said to them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?3:24And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand;3:25and if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand;3:26and if Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end.3:27But no one can enter into the house of a strong man, and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house.3:28I tell you truly, That all sins and blasphemies with which they blaspheme shall be forgiven the children of men;3:29but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit shall never have forgiveness, but is the subject of an eternal mistake;3:30because they said, He has an impure spirit.
33:31Then came his brothers and his mother, and standing without, sent to him to call him.3:32And a multitude sat around him. And they said to him, Behold your mother, and your brothers, and your sisters seek you without.3:33And he answered them and said, Who is my mother, or my brothers?3:34And looking round on those sitting about him, he said, Behold my mother, and my brothers!3:35Whoever shall do the will of God, this is my brother, and sister, and mother.
14:1AND again he taught by the lake; and a very great multitude came together to him, so that entering into a ship he sat on the lake, and all the multitude were by the lake on the land.4:2And he taught them many things in parables, and said to them, in his teaching,4:3Hear! behold a sower went out to sow;4:4and in sowing, some fell on the way, and the birds came and devoured it.4:5And some fell on a rocky place, where it had not much earth, and it came up immediately, because it had no depth of earth;4:6and when the sun rose, it was scorched, and because it had no root it was dried up.4:7And some fell among thorns; and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.4:8And some fell on good ground, and produced fruit, growing up and increasing, and bore one thirty, one sixty, and one a hundred.4:9And he said, He that has ears, let him hear.
24:10And when he was alone, those about him, with the twelve, asked him the parable.4:11And he said to them, To you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those without all things are in parables;4:12that seeing they may see, and not perceive, and hearing they may hear, and not understand, lest at any time they should turn, and be forgiven.4:13And he said to them, Do you not know this parable? How then will you know all parables?
34:14The sower sows the word.4:15And these are those where the word is sown by the way; and when they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word which was sown upon them.4:16And these in like manner are those sown on the rocky places; when they hear the word, they immediately receive it with joy,4:17and have no root in themselves, but are temporary [disciples]. Then, when affliction or persecution occurs on account of the word, they are immediately offended.4:18And those sown among thorns are different. They are those who hear the word,4:19and the cares of life, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires of other things coming in, choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.4:20And these are those sown in good ground, who hear the word, and receive it, and bear fruit, one thirty, and one sixty, and one a hundred.
44:21And he said to them, Does a light come to be put under a modius [1.916 gallon measure], or under a bed? and not to be put in a candlestick?4:22For there is nothing hid that shall not be made manifest, nor any thing concealed that shall not come to light.4:23If any one has ears to hear, let him hear.4:24And he said to them, Consider what you hear. With what measure you measure it shall be measured to you, and more shall be given you.4:25For whoever has, to him shall be given; and whoever has not, from him even what he has shall be taken away.
54:26And he said, So is the kingdom of God as a man casts the seeds into the earth,4:27and sleeps and wakes, night and day, and the seed germinates, and grows he knows not how.4:28The earth produces spontaneously, first the stalk, then the head, then the full wheat in the head.4:29And when the wheat delivers itself, he immediately sends out the sickle, because the harvest has come.4:30And he said, To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? or with what parable shall I present it?4:31It is like a mustard seed, which when sown in the earth is the least of all seeds on the earth;4:32but when sown, it comes up, and becomes the greatest of all plants, and produces great branches, so that the birds of heaven can dwell under its shade.4:33And with many such parables spoke he the word to them as they could hear;4:34but without a parable spoke he not to them; and, privately, he explained all things to his disciples.
64:35And on that day, when it was evening, he said to them, Let us cross over to the other side.4:36And dismissing the multitude, they took him as he was in the ship; and other ships also were with him.4:37And there was a great tempest of wind, and the waves beat over the ship, so that the ship was already filled.4:38And he was in the stern, on the pillow, asleep. And they awoke him and said to him, Teacher, do you not care that we perish?4:39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the lake, Hush! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.4:40And he said to them, Why are you so fearful? How have you no faith?4:41And they were greatly afraid, and said one to another, What man is this, that even the wind and the lake obey him?
15:1AND they came across the lake to the country of the Gerasenes.5:2And as he went out of the ship, a man with an impure spirit immediately met him from the tombs,5:3who lived in the tombs, and none could bind him with a chain;5:4for he was often bound with fetters and chains, and his chains were broken by him, and his fetters crushed, and no one could subdue him.5:5And he was always night and day in the tombs, and in the mountains, crying, and cutting himself with stones.5:6And seeing Jesus at a distance, he ran and worshipped him,5:7and crying with a loud voice, said, What have you to do with me, Jesus, son of the most high God? I adjure you, by God, not to torment me.5:8For he said to him, Impure spirit, come out of the man.5:9And he asked him, What is your name? And he said to him, My name is Legion, for we are many.
25:10And they besought him much that he would not send them out of the country.5:11And there was there on the mountain a great herd of swine feeding.5:12And they besought him, saying, Send us to the swine, that we may go into them.5:13And Jesus immediately permitted them. And the impure spirits going out entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down a precipice into the lake, about two thousand, and were drowned in the lake.
35:14And those who fed them fled and told it in the city and in the country; and they came out to see what was done.5:15And they came to Jesus, and saw the demoniac who had the legion, sitting down, clothed, and in his right mind, and they were afraid.5:16And those who saw related to them how it had been with the demoniac, and concerning the swine.5:17And they besought him to depart from their bounds.5:18And entering into the ship, the man that had been a demoniac besought him that he might go with him;5:19and he permitted him not, but said to him, Go to your home, to your friends, and relate to them what the Lord has done for you, and what mercy he has shown you.5:20And he went away and proclaimed in the Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and all wondered.
45:21And Jesus having crossed again in the ship to the other side, a great multitude came together to him; and he was by the lake.5:22And one of the synagogue rulers came, Jairus by name, and seeing him, fell at his feet,5:23and besought him much, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death; come and lay hands on her, that she may be restored, and she shall live.5:24And he went away with him; and a great multitude followed him, and thronged him.5:25And a certain woman having a hemorrhage of twelve years,5:26and having taken many things by many physicians, and expended all her property, and not being benefited, but rather growing worse,5:27hearing of Jesus, came in the crowd behind him and touched his clothes.5:28For she said, If I can touch his clothes I shall be cured.
55:29And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she knew in herself that she was cured of the plague.5:30And Jesus immediately knowing in himself that a power had gone out from him, turning round in the crowd said, Who touched my clothes?5:31And his disciples said to him, You see the multitude throng you, and do you say, Who touched me?5:32And he looked round to see her that had done this.5:33And the woman being afraid, and trembling, knowing what was done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.5:34And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has cured you; go in peace, and be well of your plague.
65:35And while he was yet speaking persons came from the house of the synagogue ruler, saying, Your daughter is dead; why trouble the teacher?5:36And Jesus hearing the word spoken, said to the synagogue ruler, Fear not, only believe.5:37And he permitted no man to accompany him except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.5:38And they came to the house of the synagogue ruler, and saw the tumult, and the people weeping and lamenting much.5:39And he went in and said to them, Why do you make a tumult and weep? the little child is not dead, but sleeps.5:40And they derided him. And putting them all out, he took the father and mother of the little child, and those with him, and went in where the little child was;5:41and taking the hand of the little child, he said to her, Talitha cum, which is interpreted, Girl, I tell you arise;5:42and immediately the girl arose and walked about, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with great astonishment.5:43And he charged them strictly that no one should know it, and directed that food should be given her.
16:1AND he departed thence, and came into his own country. And his disciples followed him.6:2And when it was the sabbath, he taught in the synagogue; and many heard him and were astonished, and said, Whence has this man these things? and what is the wisdom given to him? And [what are] these mighty works done by his hands?6:3Is not this the carpenter? the son of Mary? and a brother of James, and Joset, and Judas, and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended with him.6:4And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and with his relations, and in his own house.6:5And he could not do any mighty work there, except that he laid hands on a few sick persons, and cured them.6:6And he wondered at their unbelief. And he went about the villages in order, teaching.
26:7And he called the twelve, and sent them out two and two, and gave them power over impure spirits;6:8and charged them to take nothing for the way, except a staff only; not bread, nor a provision sack, nor copper in the girdle,6:9but to wear sandals, and not to put on two coats.6:10And he said to them, Where you enter into a house, there remain till you go out thence.6:11And whatever place will not receive you, nor hear you, when you go out thence shake off the dust which is under your feet for a testimony to them.6:12And going out, they preached that [men] should change their minds,6:13and cast out many demons, and anointed many sick persons with oil, and cured them.
36:14And Herod the king, heard [of Jesus], for his name was widely known, and said, John the Baptist has risen from the dead; and on this account the mighty works are performed by him.6:15But others said, he is Elijah; and others said, He is a prophet, like one of the prophets.6:16But Herod hearing of him, said, This is John whom I beheaded; he has been raised up.6:17For Herod had sent and taken John, and, put him bound in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her.6:18For John said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.6:19And Herodias was displeased with him, and wished to kill him, but was not able.6:20For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he preserved him, and hearing him, did many things, and heard him gladly.6:21And on a convenient day, when Herod made a supper in honor of his birthday, for his great men, and the chiliarchs, and the first men of Galilee,6:22the daughter of this Herodias came in and danced, and pleased Herod, and those that reclined with him. And the king said to the girl, Ask me what you will and I will give it to you;6:23and he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me I will give you, to half of my kingdom.6:24And she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.6:25And coming in immediately with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I wish you to give me immediately on a plate the head of John the Baptist.
46:26And the king was extremely sorry, but on account of the oaths, and those reclining with him, he was not willing to refuse her.6:27And the king immediately sending an executioner, commanded him to bring his head. And he went out and beheaded him in the prison,6:28and brought his head on a plate, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.6:29And his disciples hearing of it, came and took up his body, and laid it in a tomb.
56:30And the apostles came together to Jesus and reported to him all things, both what they had done and what instructions they had given.6:31And he said to them, Come to a solitary place by yourselves, and rest a little; for many were coming and going, and there was no convenient time to eat.6:32And they went away to a solitary place in the ship by themselves.6:33And many saw them going, and knew them; and they ran together there from all the cities on foot, and went before them.6:34And going out he saw a great multitude, and had compassion on them, for they were as sheep not having a shepherd; and he taught them much.
66:35And when much time had already passed, his disciples came to him and said, This is a solitary place, and much time has already passed;6:36dismiss them, that they may go to the farms and villages around, and buy them something to eat.6:37And he answered and said to them, Give them something to eat. And they said to him, Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii [$28] worth of bread, and give them to eat?6:38And he said to them, How many loaves have you? go and see. And knowing, they said, Five, and two fishes.6:39And he commanded them to cause all to recline in companies on the green grass.6:40And they sat down in squares, by hundreds and by fifties.6:41And taking the five loaves and two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them. And he divided the two fishes to all.6:42And they all eat, and were filled;6:43and they took up of fragments twelve traveling-baskets full, and of the fishes.6:44And they that eat the bread were five thousand men.
76:45And he immediately constrained his disciples to go into the ship, and to go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the multitude;6:46and having dismissed them, he went away to the mountain to pray.6:47And when it was evening, the ship was in the midst of the lake, and he alone on the land.6:48And seeing them troubled to proceed, for the wind was against them, about the fourth watch of the night he came to them walking on the lake, and wished to pass by them.6:49And seeing him walking on the lake, they thought it was an apparition, and cried out,6:50for they all saw and were troubled. And immediately he spoke with them, and said to them, Be of good courage; it is I; be not afraid.6:51And he went up to them into the ship, and the wind ceased, and they were astonished in themselves above measure, and wondered;6:52for they understood not concerning the bread, for their heart was hardened.
86:53And crossing over they came to the land of Gennesaret, and came to anchor.6:54And going out of the ship, they immediately knew him,6:55and ran about through that whole country, and brought those that were sick on beds where they heard that he was.6:56And wherever he went, in villages, or cities, or country places, they placed the sick in the markets, and besought him that they might touch the fringe of his garment, and as many as touched him were cured.
17:1AND the Pharisees and some of the scribes having come from Jerusalem came together to him,7:2and seeing some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, unwashed hands, [they found fault].7:3For the Pharisees and all the Jews eat not unless they wash their hands with the fist, holding the tradition of the elders.7:4And from a market, unless they baptize they eat not; and there are many other [customs] which they have received to hold; baptisms, of cups and sextuses [1 1-2 pint measures], and brass vessels, and beds.7:5And the Pharisees and scribes asked, Why do not your disciples conform to the tradition of the elders; but eat bread with defiled hands?
27:6And he said to them, Well did Isaiah prophecy of you, hypocrites, as it is written; This people honors me with the lips, but their heart is far from me;7:7but in vain do they worship me, teaching for teachings the commandments of men;7:8for leaving the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men.
37:9And he said to them, Well do you reject the commandment of God, to keep your tradition;7:10for Moses said, Honor your father and your mother, and, He that reviles father or mother, let him surely die.7:11But you say, If a man says to his father or mother, It is a corban, which is a gift, by whatever you might be profited by me, [he shall be free];7:12and suffer him no longer to do any thing for his father or his mother;7:13making the word of God of no effect by your tradition which you have delivered; and many such things you do.7:14And again calling all the people, he said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand.7:15Nothing which being out of a man entering into him, can defile him; but those things which proceed from the man, these are the things which defile the man.
47:17And when he had gone from the multitude into the house, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.7:18And he said to them, Are you also so without understanding? Do you not understand that nothing which enters into a man from without can defile him,7:19because it enters not into his heart, but into the stomach, and goes out to the earth, purifying all aliments?7:20But he said, that which comes out of the man, this defiles him;7:21for from within, from the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, fornications,7:22thefts, murders, adulteries, covetousness, malice, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.7:23All these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.
57:24And he rose up, and departed thence to the regions of Tyre. And entering into a house he wished no one to know it; and he could not be hid.7:25But immediately, a woman whose little daughter had an impure spirit, hearing of him, came and fell down at his feet;7:26and she was a Greek, a Syrophenician by race; and she asked him to cast the demon out of her daughter.7:27And he said to her, Suffer the children first to be filled; it is not right to take the children's bread, and cast it to the little dogs.7:28And she answered and said to him, Yes, Lord; for even the little dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.7:29And he said to her, For this speech, go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.7:30And departing to her house, she found the little child laid on the bed, and the demon gone out.
67:31And again going out of the bounds of Tyre, he came through Sidon, to the lake of Galilee, in the midst of the bounds of Decapolis.7:32And they brought him a dumb man that stammered, and besought him to put his hand on him.7:33And taking him from the multitude by himself, he put his fingers in his ears, and spit, and touched his tongue,7:34and looking up to heaven he groaned, and said to him, Ephphatha, which is, Be opened.7:35And immediately his ears were opened, and the cord of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke correctly.7:36And he charged them to tell no one; but as much as he charged them, so much the more they proclaimed [his works].7:37And they were astonished above measure, and said, He has done all things well; he makes both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
18:1IN those days, again a very great multitude being [around him], and not having any thing to eat, calling his disciples, he said to them,8:2I have compassion on the multitude, because already they have continued with me three days, and have nothing to eat;8:3and if I send them fasting to their homes, they will faint by the way, for some of them are from afar.8:4And his disciples answered him, Whence will one be able to satisfy these with bread here in a wilderness?8:5And he asked them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven.8:6And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, and giving thanks, he broke and gave them to his disciples to set before them, and they set them before the people.8:7And they had a few small fishes; and having blessed them, he commanded to present them also.8:8And they eat and were filled; and they took up of the fragments that remained over, seven store-baskets;8:9and they were about four thousand. And he dismissed them.
28:10And entering immediately into the ship, with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha.8:11And the Pharisees went out and questioned him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, to try him.8:12And groaning in his spirit, he said, Why does this generation seek a sign? I tell you truly, there shall no sign be given to this generation.8:13And leaving them, he entered again into the ship, and went away to the other side.
38:14And they forgot to take bread, and had but one loaf with them in the ship.8:15And he charged them, saying, Observe and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.8:16And they reasoned with themselves, because they had no bread.8:17And Jesus knowing it, said to them, Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart hardened?8:18Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?8:19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many traveling baskets of fragments took you up? They said to him, Twelve.8:20And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many store-baskets of fragments took you up? And they said, Seven.8:21And he said to them, Do you not yet understand?
48:22And they came to Bethsaida; and they brought him a blind man, and besought him to touch him.8:23And taking the hand of the blind man, he brought him out of the village, and spitting on his eyes, and putting his hands on him, he asked him, Do you see any thing?8:24And looking up he said, I see men, as trees walking.8:25Then he put his hands on his eyes again, and he looked, and was restored, and saw all things clearly.8:26And he sent him to his house, saying, Go not into the village.
58:27And Jesus went away, and his disciples, to the villages of Cæsarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Who do men say that I am?8:28And they spoke to him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others still, One of the prophets.8:29And he asked them, And who say you that I am? Peter answered and said to him, You are the Christ.8:30And he charged them to tell no one of him.8:31And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes; and be killed, and after three days be raised again.8:32And he spoke this word plainly; and Peter taking hold of him, rebuked him.8:33But turning round, and looking on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, and said, Get behind me, Satan! for you regard not the things of God, but the things of men.
68:34And calling the multitude, with his disciples, he said to them, Whoever wishes to follow after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me.8:35For whoever wishes to save his life, shall lose it; and whoever shall lose his life for my sake, and that of the good news, shall save it.8:36For what will it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his life?8:37for what is the exchange for his life?8:38For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father, with the holy angels.9:1And he said to them, I tell you truly, that there are some of those standing here, who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God having come with power.
