With no taste for military pursuits, or ambition for military honors, he entered the ranks from unmixed motives of duty, bore the privations of the service with a cheerfulness which excited the admiration of all who witnessed it, and died regretted by every man in the regiment who enjoyed the privilege of his acquaintance.

Died at Brashear, La., May 30, 1863.
